Spin Rewriter – Mobile Beta

As I mentioned in my post last week, we’ve been hard at work rolling out proper mobile responsiveness and a truly GREAT user experience for users of mobile devices when using Spin Rewriter.

We’ve just rolled out the first public beta version of our full-mobile support, and here’s what the changes look like so far:

Spin Rewriter - Mobile Responsiveness

Spin Rewriter on mobile devices – Before and After

As you can see, the header of the website has been completely redesigned. We went from displaying small links to subpages that are hard to read, to having a big, friendly “Menu” button that displays all of the available subpages in an easy-to-read format.

We’ve also entirely redesigned the footer of the page — jump over to SpinRewriter.com website on a mobile device to check it out. 😉

Other than that, we’ve done a ton of work to convert all parts of the websites into a format that delivers a great experience on mobile devices. This includes larger fonts, paragraphs with more white-space, larger “targets” when it comes to clicking links and buttons, optimized images and backgrounds, etc.

Hope you like the progress, and we’ll definitely keep you posted! 😀

Mobile responsiveness for Spin Rewriter

More and more people are using mobile devices such as phones and tablets to do the majority of their internet browsing.

This recently resulted in a big (and very helpful) trend that Wikipedia is calling responsive web design. What it means is, websites should be able to adapt to the device they’re being viewed on.

If someone is visiting a website from the tiny screen on their mobile phone, the website should shrink down and rearrange in a way that makes fonts nice, big and readable, while pushing the less important bits of the website towards the bottom of the page. The visitor can still find and read all parts of the website, they’re just structured differently and in a way that allows for a great mobile experience.

Spin Rewriter has always been designed in a way that allowed for a decent mobile experience — but not necessarily a great one. And we’re always striving for perfection.

This is why we’re working crazy hard on bringing proper mobile responsiveness and a truly GREAT user experience on mobile devices to Spin Rewriter as soon as possible, and we’re quite confident we’ll be able to roll it out even before Spin Rewriter 7.0 goes live on October 12th!

Here’s to progress! 😀

Improved localization in Spin Rewriter

You’ve probably noticed already how Spin Rewriter knows to be extra-helpful by showing your local times next to your spun articles inside the Archive.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re from LA, NYC, London, Moscow, Beijing, Tokyo or Sydney… or any tiny little village in between… the times shown will always be your very own local times to make things super easy for you.

Well, with one tiny exception until now… There’s a few short time periods throughout the year where different timezones switch to daylight saving time a couple of days before other timezones, OR when certain timezones stop using daylight saving time just a bit earlier than the others. And then there’s Arizona where they just don’t care. 😀

Anyway, in some of these short overlaps, your local times could be off by 1 hour in some cases. Nothing too horrible, but then again, that’s now that we’re all about here at Spin Rewriter. We’re always striving for perfection — and when it comes to time localization, we’ve just delivered that perfection with an update earlier today.

Enjoy! 😀

Happy 5th Birthday, Spin Rewriter!

Spin Rewriter is celebrating its 5th birthday today (September 14th, 2016)!

Spin Rewriter's 5th Birthday

Spin Rewriter’s 5th Birthday

I simply can’t believe how quickly this time has passed… I remember launching the first version of Spin Rewriter (on September 14th, 2011) like it was yesterday. It was probably the most stressful time in my life, and also utterly wonderful and magical at the same time.

Within the first couple of days, I was absolutely blown away by the feedback from some of our first users… and calling it “blown away” is probably an understatement in this case. People were going nuts about it.

Spin Rewriter was the first intelligent article spinner in the market back in 2011. It was the first software tool that could tell the difference between “book” as in “novel”, and “book” as in “make a reservation”.

I know, I know… We take these things granted nowadays, with our ENL Semantic Spinning technology having advanced to a point that’s way beyond the basic meaning-extraction. But back then — that was TRULY mindblowing stuff!

And for every year of its life, Spin Rewriter has only gotten better and more popular… and even better loved by tens of thousands of our amazing users.

So let me take this opportunity to say…

To Spin Rewriter: Happy 5th Birthday!

And to our users… You guys are THE BEST!

Spin Rewriter 7.0 launches on October 12th, 2016!

That’s right — we’ve got the date for the release of the next version of Spin Rewriter

Spin Rewriter 7.0 goes live on October 12th, 2016!

We couldn’t be more excited about it, and we’re looking forward to rolling out a free upgrade to the latest version to all our existing users on October 12th… as well as welcoming thousands of new users into our big, happy Spin Rewriter family! 😀

Stay tuned!

SSL certificate and security check

As you might’ve noticed, Spin Rewriter has been using an SSL certificate for about a year now — which allows us to serve the entire website and all parts of Spin Rewriter’s user interface securely over the “https” protocol to all of our customers.

This means no one can intercept any of your traffic, including your username or password, the articles you’re spinning, or learn anything else about your activity on the Spin Rewriter website at all. We think that’s pretty cool — and it’s definitely the right way to do things when it comes to running an online business.

Well, our SSL pilot project has been extremely well received and didn’t introduce any glitches to our systems whatsoever — so we’ve now decided to go all-in with SSL support and have just extended our SSL certificate for another 3 years.

While we were at it, we also performed a security audit of the entire Spin Rewriter website plus all of our back-end systems including our API… and I’m super happy to report that we’ve passed all security tests with flying colors. 😀

Bottom line: This means you’re in good hands, and we’ll make sure we keep it that way. 😉

We updated our official WordPress plugin

Once again we’ve been focusing our efforts on the official Spin Rewriter WordPress Plugin — and as a result, we’re super happy to announce that we’ve just rolled out a brand new version of it.

This new version is called “version 2.5” (very imaginative, we know!) and it ensures full compatibility with the newest version of the WordPress platform, “WordPress 4.5.2 Coleman”. It also brings a number of minor usability tweaks and stability improvements to the already-rock-solid Spin Rewriter WordPress Plugin.

Feel free to update your Spin Rewriter WordPress Plugin to the newest version right away as it’s already available inside your account. Of course you’ll keep all of your settings and projects after the update, the update is completely free of charge and it’s definitely recommended. Enjoy! 😉

Text processing tweaked further…

In my previous post I already mentioned how we’re rolling out some minor tweaks and fixes for various edge-cases when it comes to automated processing of original texts before our ENL Semantic Spinning algorithms begin their work.

Now, in some extreme cases our processing algorithm could sometimes get confused when it encountered the “<” sign because it thought that maybe it signifies the beginning of an HTML tag. All HTML tags begin with “<” and then usually end with either “/>” or another “>” immediately after the name of the tag.

Here’s an example of what used to cause a problem for our parser:

Mathematicians sometimes use p < 0.01% to signify low risk.

This would in some cases (depending on the context) turn into:

Mathematicians sometimes use p (the rest of the sentence is missing)

…after the Step 1 processing because our parser mistakenly took the “< 0.01%” as a malformed HTML tag instead of what it truly was.

Well, it certainly doesn’t do that anymore — we just fixed this issue, and rolled the update out to our production servers! 😀

New minor updates to text processing…

We’ve just rolled out another tweak to our algorithm, namely the part of the algorithm that takes you from Step 1 to Step 2 of the spinning process inside Spin Rewriter.

There used to be some edge cases where our algorithm would incorrectly place a period (.) at the end of paragraphs if the paragraph in question ended with either a single quote or a double quote, preceeded by another period.

Here’s what I mean:

This right here is a “test.” (end of paragraph)

…would sometimes turn into…

This right here is a “test.”. (end of paragraph)

…after the Step 1 processing, and you would find that additional period once taken to Step 2.

Mildly annoying, for sure. 😀 Well, not anymore — we just fixed that, and rolled out the update to our live servers! 😉
